Nail health
EDJY was designed with board certified dermatologist, Garrett Coman, MD, MS, FAAD, to contribute to improved nail hygiene. Here's why you’ll love EDJY for nail health:
1. EDJY’s single precision blade makes a clean cut, leaving a smooth surface you can feel.
Under a microscope, you can see that clippers crush rather than cut, using force to fracture or tear the nail. The tearing leaves a rough, jagged surface that weakens the nails and can cause peeling, brittle nails, and nail splitting. In contrast, EDJY's single precision blade makes a clean cut, leaving a smooth surface that reduces nail splitting that can harbor dirt and bacteria, contributing to improved nail health.
2. Integrated safety-tested blade stop helps prevent cutting nails too short. This keeps the skin under the nail healthy.
Cutting your nails too short makes it hard for the nail plate to stay adhered to the nail bed. There should be a sliver of white at the end of your nails. Don’t cut your nails too short, it can damage the skin under your fingernail!
3. The double-radii blade is designed for your body’s anatomy for a perfect cut.
Nails have two curves, a transverse curve and a longitudinal curve. We tested hundreds of prototypes until we achieved our ideal double radii blade to match the human nail. Combine that with an ergonomically correct lever, closer to the action. EDJY makes it easy to shape a precision cut at any trim length you prefer.
4. Nail health is simple, get what you need, nothing you don't.
We intentionally removed the file hook, so you won’t be tempted to dig under the nail, which widens the gap between the nail plate and nail bed and leaves you vulnerable to fungal and bacterial infections. Using a sharp blade like EDJY you don't need to use an emery board or nail file after trimming your nails.
5. Long live the cuticle! EDJY was designed to be used ONLY on nails.
Cuticles protect your nails and the surrounding skin from infection. Cutting the cuticle or picking hangnails, damages the seal between the nail plate and the skin, this can lead to infections and inflammation around the nail matrix, resulting in weak and brittle nails. Leave your cuticles alone!
*Nails are a reflection of your overall health. If you notice a change in the color, texture, or shape of your nail, see a board-certified dermatologist. While some changes are harmless, others could be a sign of a disease, such as skin cancer or infection.

Stronger, healthier nails
EDJY isn’t a clipper. It’s the first dermatologist developed nail cutter designed to cleanly cut—not crush—leaving a flawless, smooth edge.

Designed to reduce ingrown toenails
EDJY’s doctor-designed safety stop and flatter blade radius help prevent trimming too short—reducing the risk of ingrown toenails and infection.

Less breakage
EDJY’s clean cut reduces peeling, splitting, and cracking. The smooth edge helps prevent dehydration and resists bacteria—so nails grow stronger.

Easy to see, easy to use
The shorter, ergonomic lever improves top-down visibility, allowing for more precise shaping with less risk to surrounding skin.

Single sharp blade
No more snags. No more rough edges. No more nail filing.
Unlike clippers, EDJY cleanly slices through the nail, leaving a smooth edge you can feel immediately.

Designed for toenails
A wider gap for thicker toenails, a nail-shaped double radii blade, and a shorter lever produce better top-down visibility and makes trimming with EDJY surprisingly easy.

Less force, more control
EDJY requires far less force than clippers, and the ergonomic nub supports flexible hand positioning—delivering greater precision and safer trimming.
Take a closer look
EDJY leaves a smooth cut compared to the rough edges left by clippers. *Not photoshopped.

EDJY Nail Cutter (single blade)
Built to last a lifetime
We don't take shortcuts.
Every element of our engineering, production, and materials are selected to make the world's best cutter. No cheap stuff!
EDJY stainless steel blade
EDJY uses the best possible steel for our product: European stainless tool steel hardened to HRC >60. In its softer, annealed state, this steel is highly formable, allowing us to stamp the steel into the ideal shape needed for precise, low-force cutting that stay sharp for a lifetime of (normal) use. Think surgical scalpels, shaving razors, sushi knives—tools designed for precision, not brute force.
The steel is then quench-hardened, cryotreated, and double-tempered to balance hardness and durability. This process is normal for making any premium knife/blade—it’s a level of metallurgy nail clippers never approach.
In short, EDJY’s blade is ultra-sharp, precise and exceptionally hard for clean, effortless cutting—even if that means intentional tradeoffs in other areas like ruggedness or cost.
Ruggedness
EDJY is like a scalpel—not an axe. This level of precision means the cutting edge will be damaged if you use it to cut materials like metal, plastic, wood, pet claws, or guitar strings.
We could have designed the blade to tolerate other materials, but instead chose an ultra-sharp, hard blade that requires very little force and leaves behind a clean, smooth nail.
When used on human nails, EDJY lasts > a lifetime, degrading far less than traditional nail trimmers that smash their metal jaws against each other, over and over.
Corrosion resistance
We greatly reduced the risk of rust by treating our stainless steel’s surface with a satin finish. But like any high-performance steel blade, care matters.
Although our stainless steel is highly corrosion-resistant for a tool steel, prolonged exposure to salt water, moisture, or harsh chemicals can cause minor surface rust. This is typically cosmetic and extremely unlikely to affect cutting performance or lifespan.
Compound curve
Traditional clippers have only one curve, but your nails have two curves: the transverse and longitudinal radius. EDJY’s blade is one of the only nail trimmers on the market with a compound curve blade for effortless precision to match your nails.
EDJY precision grinds our blade edges in a custom-made and proprietary process utilizing four high-tech grinding and polishing stations operating on both the inside and outside of our edge. This blade geometry also helps draw your clippings into the engineered cavity instead of shooting them across the room.
Non-blade parts
EDJY's molded parts are made from a truly remarkable high-performance engineering grade polymers typically used for metal replacement parts in under-the-hood automotive applications. EDJY's molded parts are impervious to chemicals, are UV protected, and have been tested beyond 150,000 cycles with virtually no wear or change in properties.
EDJY's spring is stamped from aerospace grade stainless, spring steel. The elasticity in this spring will remain effective for an ~unlimited period of time given the gauge, loads and deflection that are required.
EDJY's stainless steel pins are custom made for us in Illinois and are passivated to minimize corrosion. The pins are then custom formed across the EDJY nail cutter using modern, USA-made technology to ensure that the mechanism stays aligned forever.
EDJY works differently
EDJY is the first real innovation in nail care since 1881, so it may take a moment to get the hang of it. But once it clicks, you won’t want to go back.
How to use
Wider radii blade for toenails
The toenail cutter has a flatter double radii blade than the fingernail cutter to match the shape of most toenails and reduce ingrown toenails.
The blade stop
You’ll never need to replace this blade due to the ergonomically engineered opposing surface with a safety tested blade stop. Dermatologist approved.
Precise control
We oriented the lever closer to the cutting point to provide enhanced control with less force and more precision than traditional nail clippers.
High-performance polymer
EDJY features high-performance, engineering-grade polymer which just means these chemically-resistant, UV-protected parts will deliver the same great results for the rest of your life.
Each EDJY cutter uses less than .5oz of resin. That's about half of the plastic used in a 20oz soda bottle.

Does EDJY use good steel?
EDJY uses the BEST possible steel for our application. What does that mean?
It means that we use European stainless steel that is relatively soft and highly formable in its annealed state. This soft state allows us to stamp the part into the ideal final shape. Thereafter we quench-harden the steel (~2000F in an inert atmosphere down to room temp in under a minute), Cryotreat the steel to -320F for 2 hours to maximize its hardness (and refine its microstructure), we then double-temper it to balance hardness and toughness for optimum performance as a cutting tool. This process is requisite for any premium knife/blade and sets us apart from other nail trimmer manufacturers that settle for mediocre hardness.
In short, we prioritized an extremely sharp cutting edge that requires very little force to cut, leaving behind a clean and unbroken nail that will hold up to a lifetime of (normal) use. As engineering is always about compromise, please note:
- Rust: We greatly reduced the risk of rust by treating our stainless steel’s surface with a satin finish. But like any high-performance steel blade, care matters. Although our steel is highly corrosion-resistant for proper tool steel, prolonged exposure to salt water, moisture, or harsh chemicals can cause minor surface rust. This is typically cosmetic and extremely unlikely to affect cutting performance or lifespan.
- Ruggedness: EDJY is like a scalpel—not an axe. This level of precision means the cutting edge will be damaged when used to cut unintended materials like metal, plastic, wood, pet claws, or guitar strings. We could have designed the blade to tolerate other materials, but instead chose an ultra-sharp, hardened blade that requires very little force and leaves behind a clean, unbroken nail. When used on human nails, EDJY lasts for several lifetimes of clean cuts.
Can I use the EDJY Toenail Cutter on fingernails?
It’s not recommended. The EDJY Toenail Cutter is optimized for toenail anatomy, with a wider gap to accommodate thicker nails, a toenail-shaped double-radii blade that matches flatter nail curves, and a design that allows for more flexible hand positioning when trimming toes. Its shorter, retracting lever improves top-down visibility so you can clearly see each cut. For fingernails, we recommend the EDJY Fingernail Cutter, which is designed with a smaller gap and tighter radii to match fingernail anatomy and deliver a clean, precise trim.
Why does the EDJY Toenail Cutter catch fewer nail cuttings than the Fingernail Cutter?
The EDJY Toenail Cutter uses a shorter lever that was designed to improve top-down visibility while trimming. This design prioritizes clear sightlines and control, which can result in fewer nail cuttings being captured compared to the Fingernail Cutter.
What if my dexterity is limited?
The EDJY Toenail Cutter is designed to make trimming easier, even if you have limited dexterity or grip strength. Its larger, curved design improves ergonomics and helps you comfortably reach your toes, while the single, sharp blade requires far less force to cut—making each trim smoother and more controlled. The built-in grip point gives you a stable place to apply pressure for better control, and the retracted lever improves top-down visibility so you can clearly see what you’re cutting.
Can the EDJY Toenail Cutter handle my thick toenails?
Yes. The EDJY Toenail Cutter is engineered to handle thick, tough toenails. Its sharp single blade and increased leverage allow it to slice cleanly through even the thickest toenails with ease.
Does the EDJY Toenail Cutter work for brittle nails?
You bet! Since our sharp blade cleanly cuts down through your nail it greatly reduces any opportunity for brittle nails to crack or split.
