Myth Busters - Common Misconceptions About Your Old Clipper

At EDJY, we aren’t interested in making just another version of the same old nail clipper. We’re rethinking the entire experience from the ground up. Throughout the design and testing of the EDJY Fingernail Cutter, we discovered several common misconceptions about traditional nail clippers that most people have never questioned. It turns out that some of those beliefs don’t quite stand up, so we wanted to give you the facts.

Nail Clippers won’t stay sharp, no matter how expensive.

Traditional nail clippers can’t stay sharp indefinitely because of their fundamental design. Every pair of clippers on the market today use two metal blades that repeatedly strike each other with significant force. Even if they start razor-sharp, that blade-on-blade contact gradually dulls the cutting edges over time.

That’s why we created a nail cutter, not another nail clipper.

Our design uses a single sharp blade that slices through the nail rather than crushing it between two blades. Instead of contacting another cutting edge, EDJY’s patented blade stop prevents the single blade from coming in contact with anything except your nail.

Having the clipper lever on the opposite side results in more force.

Traditional nail clippers have always shared one shared characteristic: you press down on a lever positioned opposite the cutting edge. We found through testing that this design can reduce both leverage and control during use.

Because the force is applied far from the cutting area, users often need to exert more effort to trim their nails. It can also make the clipper harder to control, increasing the likelihood of slipping during use or making an unintended cut which can cause damage to the nailbed.

Our design reverses this approach, allowing force to be applied directly above the cutting action for greater control, comfort, and precision. This design (coupled with our sharp blade design) requires 40% less force to operate, resulting in a better experience and easier trimming for those with mobility issues.
